How to Build a Game #27 Figure Out Your Schedule

If you want to build some momentum in your game building process, you need to figure out your schedule. How can you fit design time into and around the routine, or non-routine, that is daily life.

We started working on games just early on Saturday mornings. This worked really well since we were able to get together early on Saturday and there was no real impact on our weekend time with friends, family, or obligations.

Now that we are trying to do this on a full time basis, while we both have full time jobs, there is a lot we need to consider in order to make this work.

Planning out a basic schedule now will save you loads of time down the road. When there is a basic schedule in place, you will be able to make changes as you go along. You will know where you can add projects or take time from one project or another. Having a schedule wrll give you a new level of focus and get you into a regular routine, and that is what this is really all about. The combination of all the small lots of time we put into out craft that add up to good games down the road.

If you have made it this far, would you like to go a little farther? We have a regular Google hangout with other designers. We talk about the games we are working on and share helpful tips and ideas on how to make designing our game easier. We meetup every other Saturday. Either comment here or tweet me or email me and I will add you to the list and send you a link to the Google hangout.
