What has TGIK Games been up to? #8

Update of Current Games

Six months ago, I felt like we were always in a holding pattern. Waiting for the next play test, trying to figure out when we could get in do co-designing time and trying to figure out how to make a name for ourselves in the board and card game industry. Now a days, we have several designs in serious development mode, co-designing every weekend, having serious conversations of how we want to grow TGIK over the next 1-5 years and making friends in the industry. While it is all very exciting, we have a long way to go. However, we have a course set for what we want to do and how we are going to get there and we are excited for what the future holds, yada yada yada, on to the games!

Soccer GM

We ran a first simple test with some friends and we found that the three by three grid we were using to build out formations was a bit much. While we really liked the amount of information during our own testing, it was probably a little too much for a first run test game. It looks like we are going to go with  two by three grid instead for the next round of testing and see how that works out. I have a feeling that we will reserve the three by three stat grids for an expansion or an advanced version. We have also mapped out a basic board for the game and we will be working on turning that into a proto piece.

Arrrsteroid Miners

I am slowly but surely putting this together. For a simple game, there are a lot more pieces and parts to consider when building this proto. To be frank, there is a level of probability in this game that is not my strong suit so Aidan and I need to sit down and decide what starting point we want to go with.

We are still in the artwork process. I think we have decided we are going to take this project to Kickstarter. Since art is not too far around the corner, we are going to start releasing the art for people to see and getting copies out into the world for people to test and play.

Dice Inc.

Aidan and I spent a lot of time talking about the theme of Dice Inc this morning. We ran into a problem with thematically explaining ownership in another player company. We would always be able to explain 2 of the three parts of the auction system, but never get a real world situation to fit all three. Therefore, we went outside the realm of reality and turn ourselves in to Greek gods on top of Mt Olympus. I will leave the details to a game specific post, but we like the new theme and we feel like we can move forward with a rule set that includes a theme and makes the learning of the game a little bit easier.

Side Projects

I am starting a Podcast with Jon from Sarcastic Robot this week. We are going to record a pilot episode and get some early feedback from interested parties. If you would like to listen to our pilot episode, please email me at c.renshall.tgik.games@gmail.com. The Podcast will be a 15-20 minute microcast focused on the design side of board games. We want to provide a window into the world of design while exploring the use of design concepts and ideas.

I don’t think Aidan has many side projects going on…..school…….commute…..work………commute…….Dodgers!
